Field Program Coordinator

We are looking for a Field Program Coordinator to manage Hutanin's mangrove and terrestrial restoration program in Riau, Indonesia.

Overview

Hutanin Ekosistem Indonesia is a conservation foundation working across Bogor, Kolaka, Bontang, and Riau. Our work spans conservation, humanitarian and disaster response, community empowerment, and research, under one principle: social and ecological justice. We work directly with communities, local governments, and research partners to design programs that work for both people and the ecosystems they depend on.

Program Overview

Hutanin's program in Riau focuses on restoring mangrove and terrestrial habitat along the coast and river systems around Pekanbaru, in partnership with the communities who live and work in these areas. The program is built around two connected components:

• Restoration: planting, monitoring, and maintaining mangrove and terrestrial sites, with survival and growth tracked over time.
• Community partnership: working with local groups so that restoration activities are tied to livelihoods, local knowledge, and ongoing stewardship rather than a one-off planting event.

The Field Program Coordinator supports both components by keeping schedules, relationships, and data connected on the ground.

About the Role

The Field Program Coordinator manages the day-to-day running of Hutanin's Riau program. The role is based in Pekanbaru and works closely with community partners, the program team in Bogor and Kolaka, and visiting researchers or donors.

This is a hands-on, field-based role. Most of the work happens at planting and monitoring sites, in community meetings, or coordinating logistics, rather than behind a desk. The position reports to Hutanin's Program Director and works alongside the wider conservation and research teams.

Responsibilities

The Field Program Coordinator's work is organized across four areas: community and field coordination, program monitoring and reporting, partner and logistics support, and general program support.

Community and Field Coordination

Support the day-to-day running of restoration activities across active sites in Riau by:

• Coordinating planting, monitoring, and community sessions across all active sites.
• Maintaining regular contact with community groups and local government counterparts involved in the program.
• Scheduling and organizing field activities so that planting, monitoring, and community sessions run on time.

Program Monitoring and Reporting

Keep the program's data accurate and useful by:

• Tracking planting numbers, survival rates, and attendance at community sessions.
• Recording field observations and passing them on to the research team in Bogor and Kolaka.
• Preparing regular updates on program progress for the wider Hutanin team.

Partner and Logistics Support

Support visits and coordination with partners by:

• Organizing logistics for field visits, including from donors, researchers, and partner organizations.
• Helping arrange transport, accommodation, and site access for visiting team members.
• Acting as the first point of contact for community partners in Riau.

General Program Support

Support the wider Hutanin team by:

• Helping test and adapt program approaches as the Riau program grows.
• Flagging issues, risks, or opportunities in the field to the Program Director.
• Carrying out other coordination tasks as needed, within the scope of the role.

Qualifications

• Based in or willing to relocate to Pekanbaru, Riau.
• Comfortable working directly with communities, not just from an office.
• Organized, able to manage schedules, data, and follow-ups without things falling through the cracks.
• Confident communicating in Bahasa Indonesia with community members and local government counterparts.
• Able to write basic reports and updates in Bahasa Indonesia. Working English is an advantage but not required.
• Experience in conservation, forestry, agriculture, or community development programs is an advantage, but not a requirement.
• Comfortable with fieldwork, including travel to remote sites by motorbike or boat.
